FAQs

Check out answers to our most common questions.

What is Neighbrr?

Neighbrr is a Belgian peer-to-peer rental marketplace that lets neighbours rent and lend everyday items like power tools, camping gear, sports equipment, and more. Instead of buying something you'll use once, you borrow it from someone nearby.

How do I start using it?

Create a free account, complete your profile, and you're ready to go. Browsing items near you takes seconds. If you want to start lending, our AI listing generator makes it effortless: snap a photo of your item and it automatically builds a complete, ready-to-publish listing for you. The whole process takes just a few minutes.

Do I need to verify my profile?

Verification is mandatory to keep all users safe and secure. A verified profile builds trust and makes it easier to get rental requests accepted. You can verify by confirming your email and adding a profile photo.

How do I know I can trust people?

Every user has a public profile with ratings and reviews from previous rentals. Profile verification, a history of completed rentals, and community reviews all help you make informed decisions before agreeing to a rental.

Is my data safe?

Yes. Neighbrr is fully GDPR-compliant. Your personal data is stored securely and never sold to third parties. You can request a copy or deletion of your data at any time via your account settings or by contacting us. Read more in our Terms and Conditions.

What happens if something goes wrong?

Our dispute resolution process is there for you. If an issue arises (damaged item, late return, or disagreement) you can open a dispute directly from your rental. Our team reviews every case and works to reach a fair outcome. See how our guarantee works in our Terms and Conditions.

What does the full rental process look like, step by step?

Check the item's availability for your dates, send a request, and wait for the lender to accept. Once accepted, pay securely through the platform, then tap Confirm Pickup when you collect the item and Confirm Return when you hand it back. See our step-by-step rental guide with screenshots for the full walkthrough.

How do I confirm pickup and return?

Both steps happen in your conversation thread with the lender. After you collect the item, tap Confirm Pickup. When you're ready to hand it back, tap Confirm Return. The lender then confirms handover and receipt on their side, which is what marks the rental complete and releases payment. See it in action in our rental guide.

What can I borrow?

Almost anything a neighbour is willing to lend: power tools, garden equipment, camping gear, sports kit, party supplies, kitchen appliances, and more. Browse the listings to see what's available near you.

How long can I keep an item?

Rental duration is agreed between you and the lender when you make your request. You pick a start and end date, and the lender accepts or declines based on their availability.

What if I damage an item?

Report it immediately and communicate openly with the lender. Both parties can reach an agreement, or either can open a formal dispute for our team to review. Borrowers are responsible for returning items in the same condition they received them. See our full Care and Responsibility policy.

Why should I lend my items?

Your idle items earn money for you and save your neighbours from buying something new. It's extra income with minimal effort, and it helps reduce unnecessary consumption in your community.

Do I choose who borrows my item?

Yes. Every rental request requires your approval before anything is confirmed. You can review the borrower's profile, ratings, and message them before deciding to accept or decline.

Can I remove my listings anytime?

Yes, you're always in control. You can deactivate or delete a listing at any time from your dashboard. Active rentals tied to a listing will still be honoured until they complete. More details in the Terms and Conditions.

Is Neighbrr free?

Creating an account, browsing, and listing items is completely free. A small service fee applies when a rental is completed, which keeps the platform running and covers payment processing. See the full fee breakdown in our Terms and Conditions. Want to understand the full model? Read Why Neighbrr doesn't charge monthly.

Who sets the price?

The lender sets the daily rental price for each item. You'll always see the full price before confirming a rental request. No surprises.

Are there any fees?

A service fee is added to the rental total at checkout: 15% of the rental price, or a flat €1.50 minimum on rentals of €10 or less. For example, on a €5 rental, checkout comes to €6.50 (€5 + the €1.50 minimum fee). The exact fee is always shown before you confirm your request. Full details in our Terms and Conditions.

How do pickups and drop-offs work?

Pickups and drop-offs are arranged directly between the lender and borrower. Once a rental is confirmed, use the in-app messaging to coordinate a convenient time and handover location.

What happens if an item is damaged?

If an item comes back damaged, the lender should report it promptly. Both parties are encouraged to communicate and reach an agreement. If they can't, either can open a formal dispute for our support team to review. See our Care and Responsibility policy.

How are disputes handled?

Our team reviews all submitted disputes and may request evidence (photos, messages) from both parties. We aim to reach a fair resolution within a few business days and will communicate the outcome to both users. Read about our Rental Guarantee.

What if someone doesn't return an item?

First, try reaching the borrower through in-app messaging. If the item still isn't returned, open a dispute and our team will investigate. In serious cases we may take action against the borrower's account and provide guidance on further steps. See our Care and Responsibility policy.

What if there's a disagreement between users?

We encourage users to resolve disagreements respectfully through messaging first. If a resolution can't be reached, the dispute system is available to bring in our support team as a neutral party. Our Rental Guarantee covers what happens next.

What is expected from users?

We expect all users to be honest, respectful, and reliable. This means accurate item descriptions, timely communication, returning items on time and in good condition, and treating other community members with courtesy. Read our full Acceptable Conduct policy.

What items are not allowed?

Items that are illegal, dangerous, or perishable are not allowed on Neighbrr. This includes weapons, controlled substances, and anything that poses a safety risk. Listings that violate these rules will be removed. See the full list in our Terms and Conditions.

Can I use Neighbrr outside my area?

Neighbrr is currently focused on Belgium. You can browse and borrow items in any area, but the platform is designed around local, neighbourhood-level connections. Lending and borrowing works best when both parties are nearby.

What is Community Karma?

Community Karma is a score that reflects your participation in the Neighbrr community, such as completing rentals and inviting neighbours who join. It has no monetary value, can't be bought or sold, and can't be transferred between accounts. See our Terms and Conditions.

How do I earn Karma?

You earn Karma by completing rentals as a renter and through our referral programme. Your first completed rental earns a flat starter bonus, and every rental after that earns Karma scaled to the rental price. Inviting a neighbour who gets started, or who lists their first item, earns Karma for both of you.

Why did my Karma change after a rental?

Karma is awarded once a rental is marked complete and paid, not when it's booked. If a rental is later refunded, any Karma tied to it, including a related referral bonus, is reversed. Every award and reversal is listed in your Karma history.

Can I spend my Karma?

Karma can be exchanged for rewards from local partner organisations we work with. We're still onboarding partners, so this isn't available to every user yet. Our Karma Rewards Terms explain how redemption works once it opens up in your area.

Where can I see my full Karma history?

Your Karma history page lists every point you've earned, spent, or had reversed, along with the reason for each one.
