How to Rent on Neighbrr: A Step-by-Step Guide
Found an item you want to borrow? Here is exactly what happens from checking availability to handing the item back, with real screenshots from the app at every step.
Step 1 - Check Availability
Open any listing and pick your start and end dates. Neighbrr shows the rental cost, the service fee, and the total charge for your dates upfront - tiered pricing means longer rentals cost less per day. Tap Check Availability to continue, review your dates and total, then tap Submit Request to send it to the owner.
Step 2 - Send a Request and Wait for Acceptance
Once you send a request, the owner is notified and sees it as a Rental Request card in your conversation with three options: Approve, Reject or Propose Dates. You will get a notification the moment they respond. Nothing is charged yet at this stage.
Step 3 - Pay Securely
After the owner accepts, tap Complete Payment in your conversation. Review the order summary - rental price, service fee, and total - choose Bancontact or bank transfer, accept the payment terms if asked, then tap the payment button. You are securely redirected to Neighbrr's payment provider to complete the payment. Funds are held in escrow and only released to the owner once the rental finishes without issues.
Step 4 - Confirm Pickup
Once your payment is secured, arrange a pickup time and place with the owner through your conversation thread. When you have the item in hand, tap Confirm Pickup (the owner taps Confirm Handover on their side). This tells Neighbrr the rental is officially underway and starts the return-tracking clock.
Step 5 - Confirm Return
When you're done, hand the item back and tap Confirm Return in the same thread. This marks the rental as complete and you can leave a review. The owner then taps Confirm Receipt on their end.
How Much Does Renting Actually Save You?
Now that you know how renting works, it helps to see the maths. Buying gear you'll use a handful of times a year rarely pays off - between the upfront price and the years it sits in a cupboard, renting from a neighbour is almost always the cheaper option. Here's how a few common categories compare:
| Item | Buy Price | Rent on Neighbrr | Payback |
|---|---|---|---|
| Power drill | €80 - €200 | ~€8 / day | 10+ rental days |
| Pressure washer | €150 - €600 | ~€12 / day | Under a year at 2x/year use |
| Camping tent (4-person) | €100 - €250 | ~€10 / day | 10-15 rental days |
| Camping cool box | €40 - €120 | ~€5 / day | 8-24 rental days |
| Party marquee / gazebo | €200 - €600 | ~€25 / day | 8-24 rental days |
| PA speaker / sound system | €150 - €400 | ~€20 / day | 8-20 rental days |
For most people, that's the whole calculation: unless you're using the item more than once a month, buying is money spent on storage rather than use. The five steps above show you exactly how to book one from a neighbour instead.
“Every step is tracked in one thread - no cash, no guesswork about who has what.”
If anything goes wrong at any point after payment, the Report an Issue button in your conversation thread opens a dispute so Neighbrr's team can help sort it out.
